My top 9 Harry Potter quotes
As a Potterhead, I can recite many lines from the series. However, there are some quotes from the Harry Potter series that have stayed with me over the years.
Whether they’ve provided hope, challenged my thinking, or were just entertaining, these are my favourite quotes from the books.
“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” ― Albus Dumbledore
In the first book of the series, Albus Dumbledore spoke these words when addressing Neville Longbottom. Dumbledore highlighted to us that being brave isn’t just about brawn but we can each display micro moments of bravery in our interactions with others.
“But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” ― Albus Dumbledore
Another nugget of wisdom from Dumbledore. Sometimes we become so consumed by the negative that we forget to notice the positives that are happening around us.
“I mean, it’s sort of exciting, isn’t it, breaking the rules?” — Hermione Granger
Like Hermione, I too was a stickler for following the rules. I related to this quote way more than I should have when I started pushing boundaries and challenging myself to go beyond my comfort zone.
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” ― Sirius Black
It’s the dualiity for me! Noone is 100% good nor 100% bad and many of us have the ability to choose how we would respond to what we’re faced.
“It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.” — Albus Dumbledore
Is there anyone wiser than Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series? It is the uncertainty we have when confronted with the thought of death that fuels the fears we have.
“It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.”
Perhaps Dumbledore was expanding on the idea that “‘power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely’.? Ultimately I think this quote highlights that sometimes the best persons to bare responsibility are the ones who never sought it out in the first place.
‘He must have known I’d run out on you.’ ‘No,’ Harry corrected him. ‘He must’ve always known you’d always want to come back.’”
One of my favourite quotes in the Harry Potter series. Not only did it convey the level of understanding Dumbledore had about Ron’s character but it also was a good way of showing sometimes you need to change your perspective
‘Greatness inspires envy. Envy engenders spite. Spite spawns lies.’ – Lord Voldemort.
*mic drop* I don’t think I need to say too much about this one from the dark lord
“‘After all this time?’ ‘Always,’ said Snape.”
*inserts ugly cry* This is my favourite quote in the entire series. The love, lost and regret could be felt with just one word.
